I miss Wikipedia. I'll be walking along and I'll think 'Bollywood. I know almost nothing about Bollywood.' And it's killing me.

This is Hog Back Ridge shelter. I did twenty hard miles to get here today, but tomorrow I'll have sweet sweet trail magic BBQ.

Just dug my first cat hole. Not long after, saw my first bear. He was sniffing at some plant up the trail and I scared him off. Night hiking now with some guys.

Turning in early today at Spring Mountain shelter.

Gatlinburg is... interesting. Walking down the main street, I saw five different places where you can get your picture taken in an old west costume.

Look, Leigh Ann it's a whole store devoted to your most favorite artist in the whole wide world!
CB#: 617-913-8954

So right now I'm in Gatlinburg. I got into Newfound Gap this morning and had a hell of a time getting a ride, even with this girl 'Ups' standing next to me pretending she needed a ride too. Lousy tourists. Finally this church group consisting mostly of old ladies picked me up in their shuttle. They were all very friendly, and one of them had ducked out of their lunch arrangement to go meet her cousin, so they took me with them to this restaurant called 'The Apple Barn'. I had more fried chicken than I've ever previously eaten in one sitting. After thanking them profusely, I spent the rest of the day wrestling with the nuances of the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge trolley system. I am swapping out some of my gear for lighter alternatives, notably water purification and ground cover. I hope to drop about five pounds. Tomorrow I'm taking a zero day because there's going to be a really severe
thunder storm, and I'd rather not be caught in the mountains for it.

Yesterday I ate a big greasy gas station hot dog, a pint of ice cream, and 3/8 of a pizza. I needed that food to live.

Oh and the zero day in Franklin was a lie.

So, crazy adventure last night. Hiked 22 miles and then this guy at the shelter told me there was this big rowing event at the Nantahala Outdoors Center. Booked it 11 more miles, 4 of them in the dark, down to Nantahala. I get there after 9 and everything's closed up. This guy takes pity on me and lets me have some of his noodles. I crash in the dining room and wash my socks in the sink.
